Information Memoranda

Information Memoranda

An “Information Memorandum” (IM) is a document designed to provide an investor or client with enough information about a project to make an informed decision as to whether to support a proposal or not.

The “Information Memorandum” has two parts:

  • “Sell sheet” – the first page explaining the essence of a project. This provides a basic understanding of the proposal and allows the reader to determine whether or not there is any interest in proceeding. Normally, if there is interest, the reader will say “tell me more”. This leads to the next part.
  • Executive summary: This part is the answer to a reader asking for more information. It may be the executive summary of a business plan for an already developed project, or an information summary of an “in-process” project. It should lead to the reader deciding whether or not to support the project, with the next steps including a review of a detailed business plan and a due diligence process confirming the information presented.
